Wyke Sixth Form College are proudly celebrating another exceptionally successful year. The Department for Education 16-18 performance tables, published today, confirm that Wyke is “the best” A level provider in Hull, the East Riding and North Lincolnshire, placing us in the top 10% of all schools and colleges in the country.In addition, Ofsted’s recently published Inspection Data Summary Report, highlights our students’ achievements as significantly above the national average. Students studying Biology, Sociology, Chemistry, Physics, Sport/PE and Graphics make particularly significant progress.Examples of Wyke students who made exceptional progress are former Sirius West student, Bongani Mathema who gained a place on BSc(Hons) Sports & Exercise Science at Loughborough University with three A*s in Biology, PE and Psychology. Will Brandrick, former Baysgarth student, achieved three As in science to secure a place to study Medicine at Lincoln University. And, in an amazing year, former Hessle High student, Daisy Betts won a national dance competition, and gained A*\A\A in Dance, PE and Criminology to move onto a Dance degree at LIPA.Wyke’s GCSE success is also highlighted in the document. Students on our foundation year, re-taking their GCSEs, are making notable progress. 68% of students who didn’t achieve a GCSE pass in English at school have improved by a grade, with 62% who didn’t achieve a GCSE pass in maths, making similar progress.Alongside our A level students, 80% of students on vocational programmes, including Health & Social Care, Applied Law, Sport, Music Technology, Creative Media, Performing Arts, Applied Science and IT, achieve the equivalent of three A*s.In this academic year, outstanding results accompany other indicators of excellence. Our Sport, PE and Dance teachers won the Pearson Teaching Team of the Year Award, eight students have received offers from Oxbridge and our Pre-medical Programme has grown by over 100%.Principal Paul Britton said, “I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work, determination and effort that all our students and staff put into ensuring that the young people of Hull, East Riding and North Lincolnshire can achieve exceptional success.
