T Level in Health (Adult Nursing) at Wyke has been recognised as a national centre of excellence. The College was one of the early adopters of T Levels, a qualification that combines classroom study with 45 days of industrial placement. Due to our outstanding results, the exam board have asked our T Level Health teachers to share their best practice with other centres who offer this qualification.

Teacher of T Level Health and Vocational Industry Lead, Sophie Lill said, “This is a proud moment for the team here at Wyke. Being recognised as one of the best providers in the country for T level Health is really pleasing. We are always looking at ways to develop our teaching and improving our student outcomes, so when you get national recognition, it means a lot to us.”

In 2023, the first cohort of students successfully completed their qualification and progressed onto excellent health destinations. Ruby Davies is now studying Adult Nursing at Leeds Beckett University said, "I completed various block placements in the healthcare sector, gaining skills in baby clinics and wound dressing. The practical side of the T-level nursing course has been invaluable, and the teachers at Wyke Sixth Form College have been incredibly supportive.”

Ellisha Willingham moved onto Mental Health Nursing at the University of Hull said, "The opportunity to work in different placements allowed me to understand various career paths. Thanks to my teachers and employers, I've developed communication skills and gained knowledge in mental health.”

On campus, students enjoy classroom facilities that replicate the hospital environment. Furnished with smart adjustable beds, patient hoists and clinical equipment, these areas are excellent preparation for the workplace.

The T Level is equivalent to 3 A Levels and is a suitable for students who are passionate about a career in the health sector, with a particular focus on supporting the adult nursing team. Across the 2-year course, students develop core knowledge and relevant career specific skills through 80% classroom learning and 20% industrial placement. This ensures that they have the knowledge and skills needed to progress onto health-related university courses, apprenticeships or employment.

Wyke is partnered with the Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and Hull City Council which means that your work experience placements are within hospital and community settings.
