Yesterday, over 80 first year Business students went to the University of Hull and took part in a full day of interactive activities on sustainable business.
The day started with a session from Dr Fiona Walkley, Senior Lecturer in Marketing. Fiona gave a fantastic insight into sustainable practice and why this was so important in the workplace. Students were then set a task to put together an outfit using second-hand clothing.
During lunch, students were given the opportunity to explore the different buildings, accommodation, and subject areas within the university’s campus to help towards making an informed decision on their next steps.
The second part of the day saw students put classroom theory into practice with an entrepreneurial competition. Each group was presented with a different target market with individual needs. Students were tasked with designing a brand-new sustainable product and pitching this to the judges using their knowledge of the marketing mix. Creative ideas included a t-shirt for health and fitness lovers made from ocean plastics, gardening tools complete with an app for grandparents and their grandchildren and Wyke’s take on Hello Fresh specifically for young families.
We would like to thank staff and student ambassadors from the Universities Business School for all of their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the day.
We hope all of our students took something from the day and were inspired towards making a difference in their careers moving forward. #MakeItHappen
