Don’t panic, we’re talking “bug hotels”.
Re-wilding an area of the Wyke campus is going to happen thanks to Declan Whittaker and Shelby Coulson, both Geography students and members of the College’s Eco enrichment group. They have been awarded £2000 in prize money after winning the senior section of The Waterline Student Sustainability Challenge.
The competition was open to individuals and teams from the Humber area and the brief invited entrants to create innovative solutions to environmental problems. Shelby’s and Declan’s project centred on an environmental app with a social media spin.
The app tracks and records an individual’s environmental credentials and translates this impact into tangible outcomes. The social aspect encourages the user to engage with tips and advice on how to improve their carbon footprint. Feedback from focus groups has enabled Shelby and Declan to refine their product, adding more articles and news stories.
Thanks to Declan and Shelby on their win and for being so generous with their award.
