Former Howden School student Erin Davis is making waves in the theatre world as a Creative Venue Technician at the Royal Ballet and Opera House in London. Landing this prestigious apprenticeship was no easy feat, but Erin’s dedication, experience, and support from Wyke Sixth Form College set them apart from the competition.
Erin’s love for theatre production flourished at Wyke College, where they were an active member of the Technical Theatre enrichment programme. They spent countless hours perfecting lighting, sound, and stage management skills, even spending their free time in the theatre control room. Erin's commitment played a pivotal role in the success of Wyke’s cross-college production of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.
Beyond Wyke, Erin sought additional experience, volunteering at Hull Truck Theatre to further hone their skills. When the opportunity to apply for the Royal Opera and Ballet House apprenticeship arose, they received expert guidance from their tutor, Bryan Rudd, who helped Erin prepare with mock interviews and industry insights.
Alongside their passion for theatre, Erin pursued A-Levels in Graphic Design, English Literature, and Criminology, as well as an Extended Project Qualification in their first year. Erin's well-rounded education and hands-on experience made them the ideal candidate for the role.
Erin’s success story is a testament to the opportunities available at Wyke College for students passionate about backstage theatre roles.
