The BTEC Extended Certificate in Business requires you to achieve at least the minimum entry requirements for your chosen pathway. The minimum entry requirements will be discussed at open events and at your college interview.
If you wish to become highly skilled and possess the work ready attributes that employers and universities look for, a qualification in BTEC Business may be right for you. Our BTEC Business options are ideal if you are interested in learning about the business sector as well as gain additional knowledge on the skills required to set up your own business in the future.
You will be taught in a dedicated building that is equipped with specialist IT facilities to help support you during your studies. You will be taught by BTEC Level 3 specialist teachers with a high level of experience working within the sector and education. Depending upon the size of qualification that you chooses to study, contact time will range from 4 x 70 minutes lessons per week to 8 x 70 minutes lessons per week. We take a unit by unit approach of delivery and offer a combination of assessment styles from internally assessed assignments to externally assessed tasks and written exams. This offers you the opportunity to showcase your skills and apply their knowledge in an appropriate, work – related context and provide evidence of what you can do when you apply to enter higher education or employment. With frequent progress assessments, we are able to track your progress and either adapt delivery or provide additional support to ensure exceptional success.

This unit will allow you to study the purposes of a different businesses, their structure, the effort of the external environment, and how they need to be dynamic and innovative to survive.
Within this unit, you will gain skills relating to, and an understanding of, how a marketing campaign is developed.
Here, you will study the purpose and importance of personal and business finance. You will develop the skills and knowledge needed to understand, analyse and prepare financial information.
Unit 8: Recruitment and Selection Process*
Throughout this unit, you will explore how the recruitment process is carried out in a business. The unit gives you the opportunity to participate in selection interviews and review their performance.
This course is about gaining a broad understanding of business and being able to study selected areas in more depth. Taking an interest in the news and current affairs by watching the news and reading the newspapers will aid the transition from GCSE. You will also find watching TV programmes on current affairs and entrepreneurial programmes like Dragons Den and the Apprentice really useful, as well as regularly reading the business section of a quality newspaper, exploring BBC news or key business figures on social media. This will all act as an introduction to the world of business.

Studying a Level 3 BTEC is challenging and requires you to be organised as well as proactive during your time away from the classroom. To help support you throughout your two years, the BTEC Business team offer additional lunch time sessions that are focused on aspects of the curriculum that students may find challenging. In addition, the team are extremely approachable and will offer you help both inside and outside of the classroom.
On top of this, you will have opportunities to visit international, national and local businesses, talks from guest speakers as well as participate in entrepreneurial competitions. We are able to ensure that you have a programme that is engaging and relevant and that equips you for progression onto your next steps.
