Second year Wyke student, Vinny Crosskill, has just been informed that he has secured a place at Babson College, Massachusetts, USA, to study Economics and Finance. Babson has a global reputation for educating the future entrepreneurs and leaders of business. According to Google, Babson is “a very selective university”, with just 24% of applicants successfully gaining a place. Over the last 25 years, it has been voted the best university for business in the USA.In his first year at College, the Wyke tutor team encouraged Vinny to apply for support from the Sutton Trust, an educational charity that champions students from non-traditional backgrounds. Through the guidance of the Trust and help from his tutors, Vinny successfully negotiated a series of Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) to gain the offer of a place.Vinny came to Wyke from Kingswood Academy, Hull, and is a member of the Colleges Student Executive. Asked about his career ambitions, Vinny replied, “Right now, it’s to become a chartered accountant or earn a doctorate in economics. However, the good thing about US institutions is that you can change your major, especially if you’re at a liberal arts college, whereas in the UK you’d have to reapply to change your course. Hearing some of the classes that the colleges offer has really made me think about the career path I want to take going forward.”Vinny gained excellent GCSEs from school before enrolling to study A levels in Economics, Business, Accounting and Mathematics at Wyke.Babson were so impressed with Vinny’s application that they are willing to waive the vast majority of the university fees to ensure he is able to take up his place. Their annual contribution of over $82,000 will not only pay Vinny’s tuition fees, they will also cover living expenses and books.Congratulations Vinny, enjoy the rest of your studies at Wyke, and keep in touch once you join the “Ivy League”.
