A big thank you to Hull University Business School and Cranswick Foods for hosting a fantastic day for our first year A Level and BTEC Business students. The first part of the day, saw students attend lectures, learning about Cranswick’s business model including their management styles, sustainability and product portfolio. Following this, students were set an exciting task to develop a brand-new product for the company, incorporating all aspects of the marketing mix such as product features and how this would be promoted. Students then pitched their ideas to their peers and staff representatives from the company. Our students really impressed the judges with a range of new product ideas including:
The day provided a fantastic opportunity for students to apply the concepts learnt in class to a real scenario with students taking a lot from this experience. Feedback from the day:“I learnt that you should incorporate current trends into your product and design to target a wide audience. My group developed a product called ‘Medimeals’ which is a customisable pet food sold by Cranswick which includes pet medicine to make the consumption of this easier and more enjoyable for the pet and owner. The 7Ps marketing concept is now more memorable now that we have used this in an activity.” Shayan, A Level Business Student“I got a great insight into new product development from the trip. My favourite parts were developing the product within a group and experiencing a real university lecture as I now know what to expect in the future. The trip provided a really food context for the topics we are studying including operations.” James, A Level Business student “I learnt a lot about Cranswick’s corporate values and the difficulties in creating a unique product that hasn’t been made before. My team developed a roast dinner in a box with all of the components needed for the meal. The idea was that it saved consumers time in having to find everything in a supermarket and was called ‘Cransquick.’ My favourite part of the trip was working in a team. The topics related to marketing and advertising and will help me to apply concepts to real life cases going forward.” Kate, A Level Business student#MakeItHappen
