Selected from thousands of nominations, The Wyke Sport, PE & Dance Team is just one of the Silver Award winners from across the entire country who celebrated today, on “Thank A Teacher Day”, as the Pearson National Teaching Awards marks its 21st year of celebrating excellence in education.
The award-winning Team were presented with the prestigious Pearson Silver Teaching Award trophy this morning to celebrate their outstanding achievement.
The award is truly deserved. Each member of the Team continue to go above and beyond for every single one of their students. The impact of all of their hard work has been evident in outstanding student grades and progression (along with the array of medals in the trophy cabinets!)
Outside of the curriculum, the Team put on a wide range of sporting enrichments which have excellent student engagement. Wyke has 5 male football teams, 5 netball teams, 2 women’s football teams, rugby league and union teams plus 3 teams in basketball. Students also regularly compete in badminton and cross-country. Add to this, the recently formed dance team and yoga classes. The Team have also introduced many positive initiatives into the wider College such as the recent Health MOT’s made available to all students and staff.
Community engagement is also a priority with visits to local primary schools, helping to improve their sporting experience, along with raising money for various charities.
The Team has now been shortlisted to win one of just 13 Gold Awards at the UK’s “Oscars for Teachers” – a glittering event held at the Roundhouse on the 20th October. It will be broadcast on BBC2 the following week, on 27 October, as “Britain’s Classroom Heroes” as a showcase of excellence in education.
Congratulations Team Wyke!
