Tiny Tempest

A condensed musical version of Shakespeare’s final play, The Tempest, will be performed by students of Wyke Sixth Form College at Hull Truck Theatre on 22nd October at 7.30pm as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival.

The musicians and performers taking part will be given the chance to work with professional directors as Wyke takes part alongside local schools and colleges in this national festival for the first time. Dan Sproats, director, said: “The greatest challenge is fitting one of Shakespeare’s great tragi-comedies and the music — by Henry Purcell — into a half-hour slot. But it looks set to be a real spectacle.”

And playing the lead role of Prospero is Miguel Barrulas, who is studying towards a career in medicine at the College. He said, “It certainly makes a change from the kind of challenges I encounter in studying Biology! But I have always loved performing.” Other colleges performing include St. Mary’s, Biggin Hill and Wold Academy, who will be performing Julius Caesar, Midsummer Night’s Dream and Macbeth.

Ticket prices are £9 for standard seats, £7.75 concessions.
