Wyke Start 2018

Wyke Start is our three-day taster event designed to give every student who has applied the chance to attend the college and try out the specific subject choices they have applied for.

The event runs once the GCSE exam period has ended and all current Wyke students have finished their AS and A-level exams, so the College is empty, ready for the potential students to attend.

This year, Wyke Start runs from Monday July 2nd to Wednesday July 4th 2018.

Every student who has a provisional offer of a place in the upcoming academic year will be invited to attend, and will be given a timetable on their first day with the subjects that they chose at interview on. Their timetable will be devised as if it were an actual three days at college with their relevant courses included.

Wyke Start is a really important, beneficial event as it gives all potential students the opportunity to actually try out the courses they have applied for to see if they are the subjects that they would like to do once they start College in September.

If you are studying Art, Graphics, Photography, Drama, Performing Arts, French, German, Spanish, Maths, Music, Music Technology and/or Dance at Wyke Start please download and read the subject specific information booklet.

With this in mind, we find it very beneficial for students to choose five potential subjects that they are interested in, so they can try them all out and then make an informed decision, based upon their experiences at Wyke Start.

All transport to and from the College is free during Wyke Start and offers a fantastic chance for students to sample the transport links and to familiarise themselves with timings and routes. It also gives the opportunity for students to integrate themselves within the College; find their way around, meet the teachers that will be teaching them for the next stage in their academic journey, and also to meet other students who they will hopefully be coming to College with in September.

Previous students have found Wyke Start to be extremely important not just for helping them make crucial decisions about subjects, but because they made friends and felt a lot more comfortable within the new surroundings, so starting in September was not such a daunting experience.

Your attendance at Wyke Start is expected and is integral in your decision making process. The key points to remember are:
