A shared interest into the minds and thoughts of humans means that Psychology is consistently one of the most popular courses at Wyke.
Last week, our Psychology students attended a ‘Behind Bars’ conference that allowed them to hear first-hand the thoughts of former prisoners about their experience behind bars.
This conference was organised by the Psychology department to develop the students understanding of the penal system, allowing them to question whether prison works and its impact on prisoners when they are released. All of this information links into the students study of criminal psychology, in particular how crimes are treated.
During the conference, the students heard talks from released prisoners who served sentences ranging from 4 to 24 years. The students were given the opportunity to discuss the issues mentioned in the talks and openly ask questions to the speakers about their experience within the penal system.
