Wyke is an established, highly successful Sixth Form College with an outstanding reputation in the locality. The college draws students from Kingston-upon-Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, and further afield. The largest and one of the most successful A-level providers in the area, we offer applicants the opportunity to work alongside committed colleagues who have enabled our students to achieve high levels of success. At Wyke we put the student first and all decisions centre around staff working together to meet their best interests.
We require a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Careers Lead to lead a small team in providing a comprehensive careers support service to our students. This will include having oversight of careers, UCAS applications, work experience20 placements and employer links. There will be significant freedom to develop the provision in the way that best supports our students, contributing to strategy as well as operational work. This will be a busy role and require strong prioritisation skills and no two days will be the same.
The successful candidate will have experience of providing advice to young people on careers and similar issues, and ideally have worked with employers to arrange placements. They will be confident using systems (such as UCAS) and have a sound knowledge of Careers Information Advice and Guidance (CIAG) best-practice. A CIAG-related qualification or working towards one would be desirable, and a good general education is essential. The most important skills to ensure success in the role will include the ability to ‘think on your feet’ and excellent interpersonal skills.
This role offers the opportunity to work either full year or term time plus a certain number of days. We offer a welcoming college with supportive management and a strong programme of staff development as well as a modern environment and high standards of student behaviour. 95% of staff said they would recommend the College as a good place to work in the February 2022 Staff Pulse Survey. Members of staff are initially paid for 24 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 days after 5 years’ service and have access to a defined benefit pension scheme (LGPS).
The College takes safeguarding extremely seriously and a full range of pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure will be required for this post.
