Wyke is an established, highly successful Sixth Form College with an outstanding reputation in the locality. The college draws students from Kingston-upon-Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, and further afield. The largest and one of the most successful A-level providers in the area, we offer applicants the opportunity to work alongside committed colleagues who have enabled our students to achieve high levels of success. At Wyke we put the student first and all decisions centre around staff working together to meet their best interests.

We require a knowledgeable and pragmatic Clerk to work closely with our Corporation members and senior leadership team in ensuring the College is led skilfully, with ambition and prudence to the benefit of our students now and in the future as well as the wider community. The appointee will have the opportunity to have significant influence, work autonomously and drive governance forward. The Corporation and leadership team are open to changes to our approach to governance. We are also open to structural change including academisation so there is plenty of opportunity for influence and development. This will be a busy role and require strong prioritisation skills and no two days will be the same. Administrative support will be available to release the Clerk to focus on the advisory and developmental aspects of the role.

The successful candidate must have a relevant qualification and/or experience of being a Clerk in an education institution. They will be confident providing advice on the proper exercise of Corporation and sub-committee powers, procedural matters and other governance issues so will have a sound knowledge of relevant law and governance best practice. The most important skills to ensure success in the role will include the ability to work with and influence others diplomatically, highly developed organisation skills and sound judgement.

This role offers the opportunity to work flexibly and the working days and times are negotiable. We offer a welcoming college with supportive management and a strong programme of staff development as well as a modern environment and high standards of student behaviour. 95% of staff said they would recommend the College as a good place to work in the February 2022 Staff Pulse Survey. Members of staff are initially paid for 24 days pro rata of annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 days pro rata after 5 years’ service and have access to a defined benefit pension scheme (LGPS).

The College takes safeguarding extremely seriously and a full range of pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS disclosure will be required for this post. The College is committed to inclusion and diversity in everything we do and applications are welcome from all suitably qualified people.
