NEW courses at Wyke
Wyke has recently been selected by the government to provide the new T Level in Health qualification, a decision that reflects the national status of our college. T Levels signal a major step forward in the Government’s 10-year ambition to overhaul technical education. These are technical alternatives to A Levels, combining classroom theory, practical training and an industry placement. The new 2-year course, equivalent to 3 A levels, has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work.
T Levels will offer students a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the job’ experience during an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days). They will provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door into skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship.
In addition to this, we have recently added a new Computer Science course and developed our Performing Arts offering with students now being able to choose this as a 1, 2 or 3 BTEC equivalent course option.

For former Marvell College student, Jennifer Hepworth, Wyke offered a fresh start and a place to make new friends. After visiting the College campus, Jennifer knew that “Wyke was for her”.
Originally, Jennifer wanted to pursue a career as a film/television actor, but when she was immersed in the art department at Wyke, her whole creativity took a new direction. “As soon as a started Wyke I knew there was so much to learn and that my teachers were going to open up a whole new world to me”, said Jennifer.
After leaving Wyke, Jennifer completed an Art Foundation course before securing a place Central St Martins (CSM), London, to study Fine Art. Gaining a place at CSM is an amazing achievement, as it is one of the most highly regarded art schools in the world. When hearing of the good news, her former A Level Art teacher replied, “Do you know what we’ve done?”

Destination: Advanced Apprenticeship at PWC Accountancy
For former Marvell College student, Aaron Lill, gaining a place on an advanced apprenticeship was a fantastic reward for studying A Levels at Wyke. Places on these apprenticeships are very competitive and the selection process is rigorous.
The College Leaver programme at PWC is designed to help develop business skills through real client work, while also completing formal training and studying towards qualifications to give successful candidates a head start in their career. Whist on his apprenticeship, Aaron will earn a competitive salary, benefit from excellent support networks and have the opportunity to continually progress his career.
All Wyke students have the opportunity to explore the many post-college routes. We have a full-time careers service in College and students are encouraged to talk to the staff to develop their future direction.
