This an exclusive webpage that we have designed to help guide and support students from Howden School in applying to Wyke Sixth Form College.
We’ve gathered together a number of video resources to further your understanding about Wyke, to communicate what makes it such a special place to study. Our “Review of 2019-20” introduces you to the range of subjects, student success and fantastic enrichment opportunities. Further down the page there’s a guide on how to apply to help you secure your place.
For students targeting 6s and above in their GCSEs, we have an insight to our Oxbridge and Pre-Medical Programmes. This is followed by some case studies of former Howden School students, why they chose Wyke, the subjects they studied and their plans for the future.
We are looking to invite students and applicants to the College campus in 2021, but in the meantime will be hosting a number of live online and virtual events to give you a further opportunity to explore the opportunities at Wyke.

The Wyke Oxbridge Programme and Wyke Pre-Medical Programme are offered to students who are targeting 6s and above in all their GSCEs. NEW for 2021 T-Levels
Wyke has been selected by the government to provide the new T Level qualification from September 2021, a decision that reflects the national status of our college. T Levels signal a major step forward in the Government’s 10-year ambition to overhaul technical education. These are technical alternatives to A Levels, combining classroom theory, practical training and an industry placement.
At Wyke students a select number of students will be able to take a T Level in the following subject areas:
• Digital Production, Design and Development
These new 2-year courses, equivalent to 3 A levels, have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work.
T Levels will offer students a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the job’ experience during an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days). They will provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door into skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship.

“I chose Wyke due to the fact that I could study four subjects alongside an Extended Project Qualification. The extra support offered by the college and Flyers Programme also made Wyke an obvious choice for me.
My advice for any student joining the Flyers Programme is to take advantage of all the opportunities given to you such as the trips, talks and meetings with your mentor as these will really help you going forward.”

Our specialist Enrichment Programme offers our students the opportunity to visit destinations across the globe which leave them with unforgettable memories. For former Howden School student Nick, Wyke’s cross college trip to Washington DC was a real highlight of his two years with us. Nick had an amazing week of sightseeing and visited all the iconic landmarks associated with American history and culture including The White House and US Senate. The group also booked in to watch The Washington Wizards Basketball Game and even had chance for a shopping spree at the Pentagon Mall.
Alongside this and his highly academic study programme, Nick was part of the Flyers Programme which supported him in gaining a place at a top Russell Group university.
Virtual Open Events
As you will understand, we are unable to host open events at the campus. Instead, we are launching an exciting virtual open event programme to allow you to explore the campus, meet our Principal and interact with subject teachers and current students. These events will be accessible through your PC, tablet or mobile.
