NEW courses at Wyke

Wyke has recently been selected by the government to provide the new T Level in Health qualification, a decision that reflects the national status of our college. T Levels signal a major step forward in the Government’s 10-year ambition to overhaul technical education. These are technical alternatives to A Levels, combining classroom theory, practical training and an industry placement. The new 2-year course, equivalent to 3 A levels, has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work.

T Levels will offer students a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the job’ experience during an industry placement of at least 315 hours (approximately 45 days). They will provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door into skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship.

In addition to this, we have recently added a new Computer Science course and developed our Performing Arts offering with students now being able to choose this as a 1, 2 or 3 BTEC equivalent course option.

Ella Bristow

A Level Graphic Design – A*

Wyke’s Graphic Design Department is well experienced in guiding students to success. Over the last 3 years, students who studied A Level Graphic Design have gone on to study the subject at degree level at institutions as diverse as Edinburgh, Manchester, Leeds, Nottingham, Norwich, Bristol, Cambridge and London.

Former Goole Academy student Ella was one of these students. Ella studied a full creative programme at Wyke choosing A Level Graphic Design, A Level Fine Art and A Level Media Studies. Ella worked extremely hard throughout her time with us and achieved fantastic grades in all of her subjects, she was also part of the Wyke Flyers Programme. Ella is now completing her third year in Graphic Design at Norwich University, a degree she enjoys and is really passionate about.

To see examples of Ellas work including her work from Wyke’s science fiction design brief, environmental design brief and her use of digital and handmade processes to illustrate and narrate the characters from the animated film “Walle,” visit: https://wyke.ac.uk/graphic-design/

We can’t wait to see where Ella’s Graphic Design degree takes her in the future.

Ilona Woodward

A Level English Literature A

A Level French B

A Level History A

Destination: History at Imperial College London

Ilona engaged in all aspects of life as a Wyke student, taking advantage of the many opportunities available to her.

Alongside her studies, Ilona was an active member of Wyke’s Student Executive; representing student voices, organising events and fundraising activities and helping to ensure students have the best possible experience during their two years at college.

Speaking of the reasons for choosing Wyke, Ilona said: “I chose to study at Wyke because of the societies, clubs and opportunities to get involved in a variety of super-curricular activities. The things I enjoyed the most were the trips and exposure to different universities. For example, I visited The University of Cambridge, UCL, Imperial College and the London School of Economics. This gave me a great insight into each university and helped in my decision in which to apply for.”
