“My project is entitled ‘LGBT Icons’ and explores figures from the LGBT community who have had a large impact with gay rights. The aim of my project was to showcase and celebrate these individuals and the work they had done in creating change. I took a more hands on approach to this project compared to my usual Graphic Design route, experimenting with collage, pen work and watercolour in my pieces. I feel this more organic approach helped me produce interesting visual ideas form my overall work. I am very pleased with my final series of images and all the techniques I have used in my portraiture work. The use of mixed medias works effectively to produce a series of bold portraiture posters with an urban inspiration. I feel this really helps to showcase the identities of the individuals.”

“For this project, I intended to create an artbook focused on the lore and environment of my original character, Liev. The artbook has a fantasy theme to it as the character is designed with a fantasy world in mind. I’ve included environmental pieces to display the world as well as some character designs. I chose this theme because I love to create original content and also wanted to branch out into different illustration types and improve on my skill with perspective and rendering.”

“These pieces are work from my Final Major Project, ‘Disco Fever!’ In this project, I explored ways to represent the flamboyant and glamorous atmosphere disco embodied, through illustrations, gifs, small comics, and larger collaged pieces. I really wanted to show the social impact of disco and how disco brought people together. Instead of focusing on the commercial idea of disco, l aimed to uncover its history and impact on nightlife and music. My work shows a personal connection to disco, rather than portraying neon lights and disco balls.”

“The Forsaken Wood: This project has looked at land formerly used by gamekeepers and farmers and how after being abandoned the environment has begun to develop and return to a state of wilderness. In turn, I investigated the effects of habitat management and intervention and the relationship between humans and nature. I chose to work on this project for my FMP as it embraces themes of wildlife protection and habitat conservation which I have been interested in whilst growing up amidst industrial scale farming and game keeping practices. Also, the project focuses on a location close to my home, one that I have spent a lot of time in during the Covid19 pandemic, giving me the opportunity to truly observe and become familiar with small changes and developments. Inspired by this, I wanted to create a piece of work that highlights the details within the natural world that most people would miss.”

“Project Title: 97%
A few months ago a statistic came out that 97% of women have experienced some form of sexual assault, this sparked lots of conversations and discussions about people’s experiences as well as thoughts on social media. It made me think about all the women in my life the younger, the older, friends, family, colleagues. How many of them have experienced this? Or felt unsafe? Or felt more like an item than a person? By combining familiar processes with new techniques alongside carefully selected materials I have created an outcome that I feel emotes a sense of being a young woman in today’s society. Building my final outcome up throughout the duration of the project square by square was a new experience for me and definitely an interesting way to work. Through this project and my exploration into how women are viewed, people’s attitudes towards them and how they’re often represented I’ve been left feeling very thoughtful, sometimes angry, even a little sad.

We need to continue having conversations about these topics.

We need to see a change.”

“I have started my jewellery journey through the last year, creating hand crafted, personally designed pieces inspired by natural forms and elements. I aim to make sustainable and timeless jewellery that can be well recognised with a smile.  I live in a rural village within North Lincolnshire. Inspiration surrounds my home, from fields of crops to the banks of the river Humber. I am extremely lucky and grateful to have the scenery I do and having the ability to capture its beauty. My mission is to share the treasures of the sea through jewellery and the importance of our environment through my work.”

“For my final major project, I decided to write and illustrate a picture book for children about my two pet rats, Beans and Toast. In 8 weeks, I have created a wraparound book cover, eight pages of illustrations and a rhyming narrative. The intention behind this work is to bring joy to others and fulfil a long-term goal of mine.”

“My final major project is called “Soundtrack of Cinema”. The overall idea is to create an LP vinyl soundtrack for a chosen film, with the intent to showcase elements of the film and soundtrack. The aim of this project was to visually communicate the importance of music in film. Sound and music are narrative tools that establish emotions and relationships between characters. This aids the development of the story line, among other things. I chose to create my designs for the film “Chungking Express”, a 1994 Hong Kong film. For this film, I designed a cover and its packaging for the original soundtrack, along with a lyrics booklet. I tried to encapsulate the mood of the scenes and the songs through the colours and composition of my design.”

“Within my project I wanted to produce a body of work which was bright, positive and aesthetically beautiful. The combination of the female figure and the natural world within art has been a significant theme for centuries, particularly in Pre-Raphaelite paintings which was of particular inspiration for the project. I have always found flowers and nature uplifting, particularly throughout lockdown when gardens became our only form of escape from the four walls of our houses, and this project is intended to focus on the positive emotions and connections shared between humans and the environment with a realistic and decorative approach.”

“My final major project was finding ways to promote bands through merchandise such as gifs, posters and t-shirts. My work revolves around type and translating the bands message through intense letterforms and composition. I tend to stick to a monochromatic colour palette however I show a loud and chaotic atmosphere through layers of type and grungy textures.”

“The work pictured follows a brief centred around the theme of mental health, heading towards a final outcome of posters designed to promote positivity to those who need it coming out of the pandemic. The two pictured feature the phrases, ‘Hit the Street’ and ‘Play the Tune’, in bright and attractive type. These are two of a total 11 initial ideas, which then 4 were developed fully. The idea of the designs is to attract the reader to the bright lettering and its potential meanings, with the backgrounds being black, white and dull. One these designs were made, I then printed them off and, for the series of final outcomes, I pictured them in a physical context with everything but the posters black and white, highlighting the type more.”

“The work shown is taken from my FMP project where I’ve explored and researched into local crime with a focus on women’s safety and prison systems. I’ve investigated many case studies situated in Hull, and a few have been represented in the work shown above. It was important for me to choose a topic that gave me the opportunity to create a large research file alongside, as you are given more freedom with your projects on the Art.”

“The work shown was a chaotic accident created using recycled packaging and relied heavily on overlaying acetate sheets and experimenting with adding paint lines, inspired by Chris Ashworth. I chose to base my project on deconstructing elements of Conservative party policies and focused on a campaign to create visually appealing artwork, which is thought-provoking to try and encourage a younger audience to research into and engage with politics as everything that happens under the government affects our future. I decided on this idea as politics is a key running theme in the news and because over the past 10 years under a Conservative government, billionaires in the UK have doubled their wealth, NHS funding has been 25% lower, homelessness has increased up to 165%, there has been a 38% increase in child poverty and unemployment has risen.”

“My project is based around different feelings of claustrophobia and how our current life in lockdowns has exemplified this entrapment. I placed a significant focus on insecurities and anxiety which intrude a young person’s thoughts every day and feels unescapable and how the isolation of quarantine has caused us to become more self-aware. My main inspiration for this project is artist Francis Bacon and his grotesque portraiture confined in box-like frames.”
