BTEC Performing Arts at Wyke is always looking to break new ground and push the creative boundaries of theatre. One of the success stories of the last few years was the adaptation to stage of the iconic 80s teen-flick movie, “The Breakfast Club”.
In 2016 students pitched their proposal to Performing Arts teacher Andy Feetom. “The students were really keen to bring The Breakfast Club to the stage. To my knowledge, we were the first production group in the UK to run an adaptation of the film. The performance and feedback were amazing with the recording going viral on YouTube.”
The show ran for three consecutive days, with a matinee performance recorded for release on the College’s YouTube channel, WykeTV. The clip has now recorded nearly 9,000 hits and numerous positive comments. “I want to do this so bad I’m gonna ask next year when I sign up for acting if we can”, was the comment left by YouTuber mckennalorenmsp_
The cast included Alex O’Malley, former Malet Lambert student, who gained a Distinction* in Performing Arts alongside other A and A* grades, is currently on a gap year whilst he considers his future career options. Alex starred in the College productions of “Chicago” and “Our House” as well as playing the teenage rebel Jon Bender in “The Breakfast Club”.
