It’s been an incredibility busy summer for Georgia McGrath. Not only did Georgia collect fantastic A level results (A* English Literature & Language, A* Drama & Theatre Studies, A Law), she also received a £300 prize for winning the Ron Worsdall Young Person’s Award 2017 from the Hull Paragon Rotary Club for her outstanding ability, achievement and aspirations in the Arts.

Georgia, who’s ambition is to work in the media industry, said, “I was thrilled when I found out that I was the winner as this meant I could put the money towards new equipment and editing software which I use to produce my own shorts and small adverts.”

“Initially I was set on going to university to study English and Drama and I knew that I would enjoy this. However, I’ve since made the decision to take a gap year after speaking with the executive producer at the BBC who recommended gaining as much experience in the industry as possible.”

As a result, over the last few months Georgia has spent time doing work experience with local theatre companies and major public broadcasters. She also had the privilege of working within the production teams on various UK films. She was recently cast as the female lead in the TV pilot ‘Misunderstood’ and will begin filming for this in Newcastle in October.

Georgia concluded that “Winning the Rotary Club Funding has opened many doors which enable me to unleash my creativity and passion for the arts, whilst creating content on poignant societal issues in order to educate and challenge perceptions amongst all generations. And so, it is a real honour to be the winner of this award.”
