From College to Cambridge

By | News

Through the Flyers Programme at Wyke, students are offered mentorship and opportunities to help them gain places at prestigious universities.

This year, the College would like to congratulate the following students who have been successful in gaining offers from The University of Cambridge:

  • Kate Buurman (Former Malet Lambert High School) Architecture at Sidney Sussex
  • Natasha Franklin (Former South Hunsley School) Natural Sciences at Gonville and Caius
  • Henry Weighill (Former Cottingham High School) Modern and Medieval Languages at St Johns

Andrea Mason, our newly appointed Oxbridge Co-ordinator said “Kate, Henry and Natasha have done so well to receive these offers from Cambridge University. The Oxbridge application and interview process is so competitive and they have demonstrated that they have the academic and personal attributes necessary to succeed in such an environment. We now wish them all the very best for exam success this summer.”

Wyke win at the Winter Gardens

Congratulations are once again in order to the College’s Dance Troupe who have reached the National Final of the ‘That’s Showbiz’ dance competition following their success at the semi-final stages at the Blackpool Winter Gardens.

Wyke were the only act from 20 participants from an educational establishment, with the other 19 competitors coming from professional dance schools.

The dancers ended the day winning 3 trophies, placing 2nd in the senior category for their classic piece, 3rd in the senior category for the contemporary piece and best concept for their contemporary piece which was performed to The Greatest by Sia.

Following the event, Head of Dance Toni Daddy said: “Myself and Hannah could not be more proud of the girls. To get through to the semi-finals was an outstanding achievement in itself, and we knew the competition would be extremely strong considering we are a Sixth Form College up against dance schools that train over 8 hours a week. But every single one of the 15 students that we took were phenomenal and upped their game on the stage.”

In March, the students will perform at the Liverpool Echo Arena to compete for a National Title. We wish them every success in the final stage of the competition.
