INTRODUCING THIS EXCITING ENRICHMENT

The Flyers Programme is designed to support you in achieving outstanding academic success and prepare you to apply for highly competitive destinations such as higher apprenticeships, employment, degree apprenticeships and top-tier universities including Oxbridge.

The programme consists of a variety of elements including forums, external speakers, trips to university open days and apprenticeship fairs. You will take part in our core program of forums spread over the year and choose from the above elements to tailor your experience to reflect your interests and future aspirations.

The flyers program works well alongside one of our Pre-Professional Programmes (medics, dentists and vets, physiotherapy, police, STEM, teaching, nursing, performing arts and law), helping you learn more about the range of destinations out there. Additionally, our Oxbridge Programme will also be introduced via the flyers program, branching out in the spring term.

HOW DO I BECOME PART OF THE PROGRAMME?

Flyers is a programme that we offer if you are an academic highflyer, preparing you for the rigorous application and entry process prestigious post college destinations involve. If you achieve a high GCSE average score you will be automatically enrolled onto the programme upon starting your studies at Wyke Sixth Form College. However, the programme is not exclusive, and you can opt into the programme via tutorial and enrolment at any time during your studies.

ELEMENTS TO THE PROGRAMME

FLYERS FORUMS (COMPULSORY ELEMENT)

Flyers attend regular forums throughout the year. Forums are held termly and cover a variety of topics including making competitive applications and accessing additional support.

NON-COMPULSORY ELEMENTS

The remaining part of the Flyers Programme is made up of elements that you can choose from. These elements reflect your interests and future aspirations and may include (but are not limited to) the following; university/industry entry preparation, trips to Oxbridge/Russell Group Universities, Apprenticeship Fairs, a residential self-development trip, support with admission test preparation (UKCAT/BMAT) and employer talks.

We also have a range of pre professional pathway enrichments that complement the Flyers Programme well and are aimed at providing you with valuable preparation for progressing into careers in medicine, STEM, teaching, law, physiotherapy, the police and performance. Alongside this you may wish to supplement your programme by joining one of the college's many enrichments.‍

My experience at Wyke has been an overwhelming success. I thought that moving from a small school to a larger college would be a daunting experience yet it wasn’t at all. Everyone is so friendly and approachable. Flyers has provided me with so many useful skills and experiences which I will never forget.

Sam Winstanley, Former The Market Weight School Student
Study Programme at Wyke: Maths, Chemistry and Geography
Current Destination: University of Nottingham, Chemical Engineering

The independence and opportunity to meet new people was why I chose to study my A Levels at the College. I enjoyed being able to complete an EPQ as it allowed me to research and write about a topic I found interesting.

Lucy Moir, Former Beverley High School Student
Study Programme at Wyke: English Literature, Drama & Theatre and Government & Politics
Current Destination: University of Sussex, American Studies

I knew Wyke was the College I wanted to study at because I felt it had a much more mature and relaxed environment than other colleges. I knew I wanted to study Human, Social and Political Sciences at university and my teachers and Flyers mentor offered me additional support sessions to further develop my knowledge in these areas.

Magda Wilson, Former St. Mary’s School Student
Study Programme at Wyke: Media Studies, Psychology, Sociology
Current Destination: University of Edinburgh, Sociology & Social Anthropology

I was attracted to studying at Wyke because it offered me with many opportunities that would allow me to progress into Higher Education. Being a Flyer I have gained invaluable skills, experiences and support with my personal statement for university.

Bryan Yalung, Former Vale Academy Student
Study Programme at Wyke: Biology, Chemistry and History
